A free annual community gathering offered each September by the Adirondack History Museum and underwritten by the Grace Hudowalski Charitable Trust.
P&P builds upon the traditions of The 46rs of Troy (1937), a grass roots church group formed by the parishioners of Grace Methodist Church in Troy, NY in 1937 - the origin of the term "46er."
The Troy 46rs met every other month in a member's living room or the church hall to share their experiences and learn about the mountains. Meetings featured prominent speakers, spirited discussions about the wilderness experience and efforts to preserve the forever wild high peaks, competition in the form of trivia games (how well DO you know the mountains?) and singing, all in keeping with Methodist traditions.
Knowing the mountain history and making each summit a friend was an essential part of the climb. It was a reverent experience, not just an achievement. Their guidebook of the day . . .Russ Carson’s Peaks and People of the Adirondacks (1928) which they considered their "climbing bible".
